Chasing Away the Holiday Blues!
This month Senior Moments will address why this time of the year can be challenging for some, especially those who have little to no family remaining.
Our speaker Pastor Betty Clark has many years of experience as a hospice Chaplin, she is the Chairperson of ARC, Heads up the palliative care team at Highland Hospital, Director for Chaplains Without Walls and pastors Church Without Walls with Pastor Eugene Williams. Pastor Betty Clark has an upbeat way to share how to identify, cope with and chase away the holiday blues. While we discuss this topic each year during the holidays, Clark's delivery never gets old, her presentation is always delightful and uplifting.
During this time of the year, we witness many wonderful acts of kindness whether coat drives or adopting a family. It has been brought to the attention of Senior Moments that there are patients, many of them elderly, who do not have clothes! These elders are in a long-term care hospital facility in San Leandro - Fairmont Hospital. Many of these patients remain at Fairmont for years and with only a $50 monthly allowance, they only have their hospital pajamas to wear EVERYDAY. One patient expressed that they wanted to go outside but could not because they only had their thin hospital garments to wear. Another had all their clothes thrown away in transition from a nursing home.
You can help us remedy this problem now and Senior Moments is working on a permanent solution to ensure all clients at Fairmont will have the clothing they need. Here is how you can help now. Instead of bringing a wrapped toy this year, please bring a gift card of any denomination so clothes, shoes, and slippers can be purchased for the patients at Fairmont hospital. I will work with Pastor Betty Clark and others to assist with the purchases and distribution.
If you are interested in assisting with the distribution, please let me know via email and we will provide you with the date which will take place before Christmas.
I simply love the community of care that has been created over the last 13 years of our existence. We come together to serve our valued elder community whenever called upon and through our numerous meetings over the years many new businesses have been launched and lives have been changed.
"Thank you" falls short when I try to express my gratitude for all the ways you have partnered with Senior Moments to make the lives of our dear elders - better.
